Umrah

Umrah is a journey to Muslim’s most sacred place; the holy Kaaba in Makkah.
Umrah is an act of spiritual purity and who performs it with sincerity earns the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. It is a way to purify mind and soul, it offers an opportunity to refresh our faith, seek forgiveness and pray for individual needs. One who performs it is believed to be cleansed of their sins.
According to a Hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas (RA), Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said,
“Perform Hajj and Umrah consecutively; for they remove poverty and sin as bellows removes impurity from iron.”
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once said “The pilgrims of Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. They visited His home on His call, therefore Allah will grant them what they ask for.”

One of the other benefits of performing Umrah is that a pilgrim also gets a chance to visit Madinah- the city of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, and do ziyarat of all the places related to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions including Mosque Quba, Masjid-e-Nabawi and Jannat-ul-Baqi.

Now that you have intended to perform Umrah, you should acknowledge the nature of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you and how fortunate you are to be called to the House of Allah. Be grateful for the opportunity that occurred in time and you are able to afford it.

Bayt al-Maqdis – (Masjid al-Aqsa)

Al-Aqsa mosque is the noble sanctuary also known as the temple mount, located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Al-Aqsa is the third holiest site of Islam and is the only mosque mentioned in the Holy Qur’an beside Holy Ka’ba. The mosque of Al-Aqsa is appointed as the first Qibla of Islam, meaning the first of the two Qiblas was Jerusalem. This mosque is also known as the Farthest Mosque and is not only a sacred place for Muslims but also Christians and the Jews. The term Al-Aqsa was coined in the Holy Qur’an:

“Glory to Allah, Who did take His servant for a journey by night, from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless – in order that We might show him some of Our signs. For He is the One who hears and knows all things.”

(Surah 17:1)

Here are some of the reasons why Masjid al-Aqsa should form an important place in the heart of a believer:

  • The first qiblah (direction of prayer) for Muslims.
  • The station of al-Isra and al-Mi’raj.
  • The second house of Allah built on earth.
  • The place where hundreds of Messengers of Allah (swt) are buried.
  • The place where many Sahabah are buried.
  • A place where miracles by the will Allah (swt) were shown.
  • A place Allah (SWT) Himself calls a ‘blessed place’.
  • Directly and indirectly referenced in the Quran 70 times
  • A place where angels have descended with Allah’s message.
  • The only place on earth where all the Messengers of Allah prayed at the same time led by Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
  • The only Masjid mentioned by name in the Quran apart from the Ka’bah.
